Abstract

Trimethoxysilylpropylcyclopentadiene reacts with the electron-deficient acetylenes, RO 2CC 2CO 2R (R = Me, Et) and olefins R 1CH=CHR 2 (R 1 =H, R 2 = SOPh; R 1 = R 2 = P(O)Ph 2; R 1 = R 2 = CN) to give the corresponding Diels-Alder adducts. The compounds CHCl=CHCl and E-Ph 2P(S)CH=CHP(S)Ph 2 failed to react under similar conditions. The adduct from fumarodinitrile has been used to synthesise a silica-anchored bis-nitrile palladium chloride complex, which catalyses the isomerisation of pent-1-ene.
