Abstract
Some correct formulas using discrete orthogonal polynomials (DOP) to fit local surfaces of objects in range images to detect characteristics of objects have been derived. The authors first give some definitions about discrete orthogonal polynomials, then with the use of a group of bivariate orthogonal polynomials to fit local surfaces, they derive the fit coefficients and fit mean square error expressions. Some ideas about applying this method in range image segmentation are given. >
