Abstract

Abstract Recent studies have established that construction work on the Ghaznavid palace discovered in Ghazni by the Italian Archaeological Mission in Afghanistan began before Masʿūd III (r. 1099–1115) came to power. This sultan, on the other hand, could be credited with the reorganisation of the rooms overlooking the building’s central courtyard and, above all, with the construction (or reconstruction) of the palatine mosque.
