Abstract

The article analyse the empirical data from a questionnaire survey run in manufacturing companies in the Nordic companies and East Asian companies. The purpose of the study is to evaluate to what degree the synergistic eff ects of TQM and JIT are to be expected. The following six operational hypotheses are formulated and tested: 1. High degree of collaboration between supplier and producer, 2. Strong demands from the producer, 3. Extensive use of QC techniques, 4. Welleducated workers in JIT environment, 5. Need of precise information about customer segments, 6. Need of precise information about customer wants. It appears that we have found reasonable evidence for accepting all the six hypotheses.
