Abstract

Dynamic polarizabilities obtained by various standard approximate methods at both real and imaginary frequencies are shown to be related by inequality relationships. This appears to hold, under definite assumptions, for coupled and uncoupled time-dependent Hartree-Fock schemes and Tamm-Dancoff approximation. The use of such inequalities suggest some remarks about van der Waals dispersion coefficients which can be evaluated in these various approximations.
