Abstract

The detection and identification of hashish ( Cannabis sativa L.) constituents using chromatographic methods was attempted. Separation of 27 constituents of hashish resin by two-dimensional chromatography, with remarkable resolution, was carried out. The problem of interference by nutmeg ( Myristica fragrans Houtt.) with the colour reaction of hashish constituents using fast blue salt B is discussed. Gas chromatographic separation of some of the constituents of hashish extract, e.g. cannabinoids and some non-cannabinoids, was achieved. All components were identified by combined gas chromatography-mass spectrometry.
