Abstract

The article highlights some points of natural and artificial English place names studying, the diversity of their linguistic origin and the correlation of place names system with other sciences, language and culture. Some important points in toponyms interpretation are revealed, that is important in the work with texts in Britain country studying course. Due to the substantial differences of two interactive language systems the transmission of the English toponyms into Ukrainian causes the special difficulties, that explains the existence of a few traditional scientific approaches to the stated problem. There is a necessity of the development of clear rules of pronunciation and spelling of the borrowed proper names.The English topographical names in detail were not studied by scientists to that time, when a question about their importance was affected by Margaret Gelling.The problem of transmission of toponyms in interlingual and cross-cultural communication is as old as the communication between people. The related complications and errors arose up and, unfortunately, will arise up on the reason of the features of toponyms as linguistic signs. On the other hand, the toponyms may be so complicate, that they serve as a source for formation of different figurative senses, and also general derivates.
