Abstract

The ESCA core level spectra of the perchlorodiphenylaminyl radical have been measured and are interpretated in terms of a significant unpaired spin density on nitrogen. Comparison is drawn with conclusions based on the corresponding ESR data. Satellites are observed to the low kinetic energy side of the direct photoionization peaks and these are interpretated in terms of π → π * shake up transitions accompany core ionizations.
