Abstract
Party in the sense of party organization has significance for the student of history. Not only is it the agency that determines what group shall operate the machinery of government but it may also be a reflection of racial and religious loyalties, economic interests and social trends, and the analysis of its functioning therefore an explanation of past and present day life.' A study of party history in British Columbia is of interest not only to students of the British Empire but to students of American and United States history as well. The latter may find in the observation of party organization and practice in this particular setting some clarification of what is essential in these expressions of political life; to students of the Empire an analysis of party life may reveal some evidence of the intellectual and sentimental bonds that have united England with the Dominions.
