Abstract
Some aspects of child health within the community are discussed by a doctor working at the clinical level. The community chosen for discussion is an inner urban area with a multiracial population and problems of poor housing and social deprivation. Reasons for attendance at child health clinics are considered. The provision of care for the preschool handicapped child and the child with special needs is examined.
