Abstract

Abstract In this chapter the known properties of GRs are used to study some specific nuclear properties, either as an alternative to already existing methods or as the only method to obtain any information at all. The following topics will be discussed: Fission time scales: hot, fast-rotating nuclei resulting from a heavy-ion fusion reaction can fission. It has been found from neutron multiplicity measurements that the fission time scale is considerably longer than expected on the basis of a simple statistical model. A longer fission time should also affect the multiplicity of isovector giant dipole resonance (IVGDR) decay γs.
