Abstract

Since the elk's antlers may fairly be considered typical, a fine pair are shown in the accompanying figure, to illustrate the different terms used in books on the chase. The browtine is the lowest branch, springing from the beam, or main stem of the antler, just above the burr, and curving gently downward toward the face. Next is the bez-tine, about the same size, but pointing to one side. Some distance above this is a third tine called the royal; while towering over all are the sur-royals.
