Abstract

We obtained the shape of the optical absorption band due to localized impurities in a perfect crystal with only one adjustable parameter, using a simple model for the vibrational modes. We obtained a continuous band in addition to the line spectrum. A closed form for the associated moments is also given. Computer calculation have been done for theoretical diluted impurities with only two energy states. The crystals were assumed to be of f.c.c. and b.c.c. types with the impurities in octahedral sites. The dispersion relation for the vibrational modes was aproximated by a single frecuency for the optical branch and by the Debye model for the acoustical branch. The procedure can be easily used for more realistic models.
