Abstract

In addition to the atteunation of longitudinal ultrasonic waves in Ca${\mathrm{F}}_{2}$ and Ba${\mathrm{F}}_{2}$, calculations have been made for the thermal attenuation of shear acoustic waves propagating along the 100g and 110g directions in three fluorite-structure dielectrics, viz., Ca${\mathrm{F}}_{2}$, Ba${\mathrm{F}}_{2}$, and Sr${\mathrm{F}}_{2}$. The coefficient of drag acting on the motion of screw and edge dislocations due to compressional and shear phonon viscosity has also been evaluated for both the waves.
