Abstract

ABSTRACTA new cubane cluster [Co4(dbhb)4(μ3-OCH3)4(CH3OH)4] (1, where Hdbhb is 3,5-dibromo-2-hydroxy-benzaldehyde) has been synthesized by solvothermal method. Complex 1 was characterized by IR spectroscopy, elemental analysis, Raman spectroscopy, and X-ray single-crystal diffraction. 1 is tetranuclear cobalt cluster with a cubane topology, in which the metal ions and the oxygen atoms from the methanol ligands occupy the alternate vertices of the cubane. There is one independent Co(II) ion, assuming a distorted octahedral geometry with cis-angles O–Co–O in the range of 81.3(1)–101.0(2) and Co–O bonds of 2.009(4)–2.212(4) Å from three μ3-OCH3, a dichelating dbhb ligand, and one CH3OH molecule.
