Abstract

Solving the pellet problem for multicomponent diffusion and complex reactions, the mass and energy balance equations for a pseudohomogeneous catalyst pellet have to be combined with the appropriate mass flux relations. The effective binary diffusivity approach has proved to be a versatile tool to incorporate flux relations for catalysts with a unimodal as well as with a bimodal pore size distribution without changing the numerical solution algorithm. Its flexibility has been demonstrated by simulation examples from the literature.
