Abstract

This paper presents an efficient and reliable CS-based approach to solve the optimal reactive power control (ORPC) problem. The parent position of Levy Flights is fixed which lead to the slow convergence speed in the late iterations, and it's likely to be caught in local optimum. Thus, the variation of the inertia weight and an improved step search equation are introduced into the Improved Cuckoo Search algorithm (ICS). For the sake of verify the validity of the proposed ICS, ICS and CS are both examined and tested in IEEE30-bus test system with the objective of minimization of voltage deviations based on MATLAB software. The obtained results show that, using ICS to solve the reactive power optimization problem can be made in minimization of voltage deviations at the same time to improve the convergence performance. The simulation results prove the practical of the proposed algorithm meanwhile show its robustness to figure out the ORPC problem.
