Abstract

Item response theory models appear to provide an excellent measurement framework for addressing technical matters associated with criterion-referenced testing. The primary purpose of this chapter is to describe our efforts to apply IRT models to the problems of determining test lengths, selecting items, and reporting scores. In addition, because of the importance of model fit to the viability of results, approaches to assessing the fit of IRT models to criterion-referenced test results are considered.
