Abstract

The application of software based on the method of lines (MOL) to convection and convection-reaction problems is considered. The components of a prototype software package, SPRINT2D, are unstructured mesh finite volume algorithms, coupled spatial and temporal error control algorithms, and modified time integration techniques for the large systems of ordinary differential equations. The software is applied to a realistic combustion problem and the lessons learned used to discuss the validity of the MOL approach.
