Abstract
Astrom problem is referred to as a real time control of a nonlinear, time-variant beam-and-ball system. Previsously, the author of this paper has demonstrated using fuzzy logic and neural network technique, we can establish control objective in real time. However, in order to further improve the system performance, especially reduce the controller’s over-correction under heavy random disturbances, there is a need to develop a more reliable control algorithm. In this paper, we discuss a technique combining the fuzzy logic PID controller with a conventional statistical process control (SPC.) The SPC technique is utilized as a supervisor to monitor the random disturbances and to identify the need of a control action against the randm noise. Simulation result of the SPC-fuzzy PID controller for the first order system is provided.
