Abstract

Abstract Regiospecific N- or C-benzylations of 2-pyridone are observed in solvent-free conditions in the absence of base. The regioselectivity is controlled by the heating technique (microwave irradiation or conventional heating) or, using microwaves, by the emitted power or the leaving group of benzyl halides.
