Abstract

AbstractTwo novel Sn/S compounds, {}^1_\infty[SnS2·en] (1) and [enH]4[Sn2S6]·en (2), have been synthesized by solvothermal reactions of Cl3SnBu‐SnCl3 or tin, respectively, with elemental sulfur in ethylenediamine at 180 °C. The compound was characterized by means of X‐ray diffraction and spectroscopy. Compound 1 represents an neutral polymeric chain structure, based on [SnS2·en] units, with tin atoms in coordination number six. Thus, 1 can be viewed as SiS2‐type SnS2 in a solvated variant. Compound 2 represents a salt of the dimeric [Sn2S6]4– anion, with protonated 1,2‐diaminoethane (en) as counter cations. The structural features and properties of both compounds are discussed.
