Abstract
Chemoselective protection of alkyl and aryl aldehydes has been accomplished through the formation of dioxolane on the surface of alumina-sulfuric acid under solvent-free conditions where dialkyl ketones, aryl alkyl ketones, and diaryl ketones remain intact.
