Abstract

EPR spectra of bis(2-ethyl-2-hydroxybutanoato(2-)) oxochromate(V), in a range of solvents exhibit g iso and A iso values that are typical of five-coordinate Cr(V). This indicates that the distorted trigonal-bipyramidal structure observed in the solid state, in which the carboxylate groups occupy the axial sites, is retained in solution. However, there is EPR spectral evidence of a small amount of a second geometric isomer in certain solvents
