Abstract

In vitro methods of fungicidal testing involving dermatophytic organisms have varied widely, and the accumulation of comparative data is sometimes difficult. The solvent plays an important part in any test procedure, and a screening of several common solvents indicates the relative nontoxicity of the glycols, in particular, polyethylene glycol 400. Comparative fungicidal data is presented on a number of phenolic chemicals using 95 per cent ethanol and 60 per cent polyethylene glycol 400 as solvents and the mycelial disk technique of fungicidal evaluation.
