Abstract
The solution of the wave equation for a point source in a medium whose velocity of propagation is given by c = c0z/(z2 − a2)1/2 is presented. An integral representation of the solution is obtained paralleling Pekeris [J. Acoust. Soc. Am. 18, 295 (1946)]. An expansion of the integrand into a series of Hankel functions allows the integration to be performed. The solution thus obtained is briefly discussed in the asymptotic limits.
