Abstract
The end problems of arbitrary traction, displacement, and mixed boundary conditions are all solved by the superposition of half-plane and infinite strip solutions. The solutions obtained involve singular integral equations, which are analyzed directly to determine the solution singularities at the corners. The solutions are applied to several specific problems in which pointwise end conditions are prescribed including extension, bending, and flexure for a fixed end; compression against a smooth and rough circular cylinder; and extension and bending by cosine and sine normal tractions. Numerical results are given for most of these solutions.
