Abstract

Abstract The eigenfunction expansion-generalized variational method (EEGV) is proposed to solve notch problems for a finite plate. It is expected that the EEGV method is most suitable to solve the abovementioned problems, which are difficult to solve at present. In the case of stress, displacement and mixed boundary conditions, several examples for a finite plate having an elliptic notch are discussed. In addition, the numerical results obtained are given in Figs. 3, 4 and Tables 1–4. Finally, the properties of convergence are discussed with the presented numerical results.
