Abstract
Single crystals of ZnTe are grown by using the solution growth method from zinc or tellurium solution in a quartz crucible. The examinations of etch pits and inclusions using a microscope are performed. Crystals grown from zinc solution have etch pit densities between 102 and 104 cm-2 and have almost no inclusion. Growth habit of the crystals is studied. Once nucleation is achieved, a flat-shaped crystal bounded by (111) faces grows rapidly to show a rhombic shape in the presence of a directional heat flow. The thickening of the platelet results from the lamellar growth with nucleation occurring at the edge.
