Abstract

This article presents a method of integration between solution-focused brief therapy (SFBT) and experiential family therapy, particularly the technique of family sculpting. These two forms of psychotherapy integrate well since they are both strength based. Utilizing family sculpting in SFBT provides movement from words to images, allowing for multiple modes toward solutions. Solution- focused sculpting highlights the discrepancies between clients' problem/complaint experiences and their non-problem/non-complaint experiences. In this article, I describe the core principles of SFBT as well as the technique of family sculpting from experiential family therapy. I then present an integration and application of this technique with solution-focused theory—what I call solution-focused sculpting.
