Abstract
The quantify solute redistribution during solidification, the exact solution of the solidification model of Brody and Flemings has been derived under the assumptions that the partition ratio and the diffusion coefficient are constant and solidification proceeds parabolic in time. The approximate solutions proposed by Brody and Flemings, Clyne and Kurz, and Ohnaka have been evaluated by comparing with the exact solution.
