Abstract
In the present study, we have provided an insight into the solubilization of bioactive compound Benzothiazole (BNZ) by the micellar media of an anionic surfactant, Sodium dodecyl sulphate and a cationic surfactant, cetyl trimethylammonium bromide. The detailed investigation of this phenomenon involves the use of electrical conductivity and UV–Visible spectroscopic techniques in sub-micellar and micellar concentration ranges. Furthermore, the critical micelle concentration (CMC) of the two surfactants and their respective thermodynamic properties in the presence of BNZ were determined by conductivity method, where the results suggest that the presence of BNZ increases the CMC of both surfactants. The studies from absorption spectroscopy suggest that, initially the molecules of BNZ get attached with monomeric molecules of surfactant in premicellar region, while in post-micellar region they are accommodated within the micelle.
