Abstract

The solubility of gliclazide in seventeen pure solvents, i.e. methanol, ethanol, n-propanol, i-propanol, n-butanol, i-butanol, s-butanol, acetone, cyclohexanone, ethyl formate, methyl acetate, ethyl acetate, acetonitrile, tetrahydrofuran, N, N-dimethylformamide, chloroform and toluene was determined using a gravimetric method over a temperature range from 278.15 to 318.15 K at atmospheric pressure. The obtained solubility was corrected by the modified Apelblat equation, λh equation, non-random two-liquid (NRTL) equation, and the Wilson equation. The mixing properties, such as the dissolution Gibbs energy, enthalpy and entropy of gliclazide, were calculated based on the Wilson equation. The solubility data, thermodynamic parameters and dissolution properties would be useful for the development and optimization of the crystallization processes for gliclazide in industry.
