Abstract

The solubilities of noble gases and nitrogen in n-alkanes at 298.15 K and atmospheric pressure (0.10132 MPa) were examined. A new approach to the description of equilibrium in inert gas—liquid systems was formulated. The approach is based on the description of features of the molecular structure of the gas and liquid using characteristic parameters. For the liquid such a parameter is the intermolecular space volume accessible for diffusing gas particles, while for the gas it is the intrinsic volume of a mole of gas atoms (molecules) and the distribution constant between the intrinsic phase and the indicated volume of the intermolecular space of the liquid. Thus obtained equation is appropriate for the description of solubility of inert gases in organic liquids with any type of intermolecular interaction.
