Abstract

Solubilities of 15 non-polar gases (He, Ne, Ar, Kr, Xe, H 2, D 2, N 2, O 2, CH 4, C 2H 4, C 2H 6, CF 4, SF 6 and CO 2) in 2-butanol have been measured at 263.15, 273.15, 283.15, 293.15, and 303.15 K at gas partial pressure 101.33 kPa. Standard changes of Gibbs energy for the solution process at 298.15 K have been determined from experimental data and the corresponding standard changes of enthalpy and entropy have also been calculated using the variation of solubilities with temperature. The Lennard-Jones 6,12 pair potential parameters have been estimated for the solvent through the Scaled Particle Theory (SPT). The parameters obtained have been compared with those corresponding to 1-butanol and 2-methyl-1-propanol.
