Abstract

The solubility of 5-Fluorouracil (5-Fu) in four mixed solvents (methanol + THF, water + THF, 1-propanol + THF and DMF + THF) was measured by a dynamic laser monitoring at the temperature of 283.15 K − 323.15 K at 0.1 MPa. The solubility of 5-Fu increased with increasing temperature, while increased with decreasing mass-fraction of THF in each binary system. Moreover, the experimental solubility values of 5-Fu were correlated with the modified Apelblat equation, λh equation, CNIBS/R-K model and Ma model. And the average relative deviations (105RMSD) calculated by the four fitted models were all below 14.03, indicating that fitting with the four models gives satisfactory results. In addition, Hansen solubility parameters and Solute-solvent interaction can well describe the solubility behavior of 5-Fu in the four mixed solvents. Moreover, the apparent thermodynamic parameters (ΔGsolno, ΔHsolno, ΔSsolno) of 5-Fu in four binary solvents were calculated by the van’t Hoff equation. Finally, the enthalpy–entropy relationship in four mixed solvents was explained.
