Abstract

AbstractA method for the determination of the purity of a compound by means of a series of solubility determinations (described in the case of one impurity by Northrop and Kunitz1) has been shown to give The number of main impurities present; the percentage of each impurity; the solubility of the compound; the solubilities of the impurities. The method which may prove very useful, especially in cases where the probable impurities are related com pounds, e.g., other members of a homologous series, has been applied with success to DDT (Dichloro‐diphenyl‐trichloroethane) and to 22′, 44′ 66′ NN′ oetachloro‐diphenyl‐urea.
