Abstract

The authors study the solubility and diffusion of methane in coal strata and determine the absorption activation energy of methane experimentally between 133 and 323/sup 0/K. These experiments were made on samples of coal, degassed at 60/sup 0/C. The relation between initial and equilibrium swelling of anthracites in carbon dioxide is shown. The sorption of methane by superanthracites is also presented.
