Abstract

Solutions for the solitons propagated in polyacetylene chains are considered in the context of properties of biological membranes. In particular, a transformation of a mechanical signal into an electrical signal is discussed. From the mathematical point of view the solutions considered lead to an extension of the problem of R. W. Zwanzig concerned with the behaviour of the coupled harmonic oscillator system interacting with a surface. The present paper brings an interpretation of this collision in connection with the phenomena on biological membrane surfaces.
