Abstract

The study of soliton interactions in birefringent fibers has important applications in optical communications. In this paper, the coupled nonlinear Schrödinger equations, which can be used to model the soliton propagation in birefringent fibers, are investigated theoretically. Analytical two-soliton solutions are given by the use of the Hirota method. Their interactions are analyzed, and their amplitude and period are controlled through choosing the corresponding physical parameters. The relevant conclusions have theoretical guiding significance for high-capacity communication.
