Abstract

Effects of randomly varying parameters of optical fibers on soliton propagation are studied numerically by using the propagating beam method. The results show that N=3 and higher order solitons are strongly influenced by the random perturbations in dispersion and nonlinearity of the fibers. The lowest two order solitons, however, can stably transmit in such fibers and should be used for communication applications.
