Abstract

Summary To date 29 cases of solitary, pelvic ectopic kidney have been recorded including our case, and it is probable that a careful search of the literature would reveal other cases. Accompanying anomalous conditions of the uterus in the female and other organs in the male seem to be the rule. Prior to the time of routine cystoscopy for diagnosis all cases were discovered either in the dead house or at operation. The pathologists will undoubtedly continue to find other cases, and unimaginative operators will continue to be surprised at operation. The records show that while an occasional person reaches the seventh decade as in the case of Houtappel, whose patient was a male of sixty-eight years, most of them succumb at an early age to disorders arising from kidney deficiency.
