Abstract

A case of solitary non-parasitic cyst of the liver, presenting with recurrent obstructive jaundice, is described in a 67-year-old woman. Solitary non-parasitic hepatic cysts are uncommon and frequently asymptomatic. When symptoms are present they are usually related to abdominal distension with non-specific upper abdominal discomfort. Jaundice has only been described in a few cases. This report describes a case of solitary nonparasitic hepatic cyst presenting with obstructive jaundice. A 67-year-old woman who first presented with obstructive jaundice in December 1975. Jaundice persisted and laparotomy was performed at another hospital in March 1976. The findings were of an extremely large single cystic lesion replacing the majority of the left lobe of the liver. The right lobe of the liver also looked abnormal.
