Abstract

A solitary fibrous tumour (SFT) is a rare neoplasm of mesenchymal origin that occurs typically in the pleura, but can also occur several other locations.1e3 Nevertheless, SFTs occurring at the skull base and extending both extracranially and intracranially are very rare, with only two cases reported thus far.4,5 In this report, we described an atypical malignant SFT with many unusual features: rare location, unique growth pattern, lymph nodes metastasis, and atypical immunophenotype. Another unusual feature of this lesion was its high sensitivity to radiotherapy and chemotherapy of the postsurgical residual lesion. Finally, this is the first report that demonstrates a complete response of an intracranial SFT to radiotherapy and chemotherapy.
