Abstract

A 58-year-old female patient presented complaints concerning a painless "bubble" in the lower lip with 7-month evolution, reporting episodes of remission and growth. In the medicine’s history there are no predisposing factors. The clinic examination revealed a normochromic bubble measuring 0.3 cm in vermillion of the lower lip region with a rubbery consistency. The clinical hypothesis of mucocele was established; thus, an excisional biopsy was performed. Histologic examination showed a benign neoplasm of mesenchymal origin with well-defined capsule characterized by proliferation of ovoid cells showing pale nuclei and spindle cells in a solid or papillary pattern from within fibrous connective tissue stroma. Immunohistochemical stains were performed and showed diffuse positivity for CD34 and α-smooth muscle actin and focal positivity for Bcl-2. Based on these findings the diagnosis of solitary fibrous tumor was established. No complementary treatment was performed. The patient was followed up for 6 months without recurrences.
