Abstract
A BBC Panorama programme shown at the beginning of November was heartrending in its description of the plight of elderly people discharged from hospital to hopelessly inadequate community care support. The optimism of hospital staff that some of these old people would be able to cope alone at home was patently misplaced, as despairingly philosophical community muses discovered.
