Abstract
Inherently cementitious ceramic compositions made by sintering show promise as host materials for the containment of radioactive wastes. The distribution of lanthanons in Ca-rich compositions has been explored using Nd as a model 4f element. Phase relations in the relevant portions of the CaONd 2O 3Fe 2O 3A l 2O 3 system show the coexistence of calcium aluminates and ferrites with Nd-melilites, perovskites, and K 2NiF 4-type phases.
