Abstract

In the mentioned system large domains of SnO 2 based solid solutions as well as the presence of two binary compounds, CuO-Sb 2 O 5 and 4Cu 2 O.Sb 2 O 5 , have been identified. In certain conditions CuO-Sb 2 O 5 can also form solid solution dissolving SnO 2 . The mechanism of the solid solutions formation is complex and takes places in certain compositions, stepwise. To bring more information about the intermediate phases formed during the solid solutions and binary compounds formation, the present work reports the study by IR spectrometry of the solid state reactions in the Sn-Sb-Cu-O system. The IR spectrometry data yield additional information to the phase composition determined by X-ray diffraction.
