Abstract

High resolution spectra of Na and F Kalpha X-ray satellites of (NaF, NaBr, NaCl) and of NaF, MgF2, LiF, CaF2, FeF3, KF, BaF2, SrF2, SrF2, (CH2-CF2)n and (CF2)n are reported. Optimal conditions for the production of Kalpha 3,4 satellites are obtained using 2 MeV 4He beams on thick samples. KLL Auger electron spectra are also presented for comparison showing structure variations which can be correlated with observations made on Kalpha 3,4 spectra. The relatively intensity of the fluorine satellite peak is maximum in ionic compounds and decreases rapidly with increasing covalency being very small when 2p bands are present, the inhibition of the satellite peak is attributed to the delocalisation of 2p vacancies.
