Abstract

This investigation has shown that PEO electrolytes formed with have rather unexpected properties. The transport number of Ni2+ can be enhanced by a process of controlled hydration/dehydration. The same process also results in a dramatic increase in conductivity above 60°C. As‐cast/dried film had a conductivity of ∼10−6 (Ω‐cm)−1 at 150°C. After hydration/dehydration its conductivity increased to ∼10−3 (Ω‐cm)−1 at the same temperature. Preliminary measurements of the UV‐visible spectroscopy of show that water preferentially complexes with Ni(II) to form the hexaquo complex.
